Design Challenge:
Use branded type, image, and message to create a print publication promoting a collection of choice from the Smithsonianís Cooper Hewitt Museum. Prompt visual interaction and enthusiasm for the design collection through a dynamic but consistent typographic system and layout. An informative and engaging user experience for the audience is the core of the design's purpose.
Solution:
My design process began with research focused on the Cooper Hewitt brand identity system. Using this research as a foundation, I developed a type hierarchy, color palette, and layout system. Secondary research focused on the Japanese Graphic Design Collection. This research informed my choice of works to display in the publication. With these elements, I utilized grids to create the composition for the covers and spreads, dynamically combining the type with the imagery. The result was a print publication that promotes and conveys the spirit of the collection while utilizing the Cooper Hewitt brand identity to create a visually exciting experience for the audience.
